Should Skype continue to operate in China under the joint venture with Tom, as described in section 3.52 Why or why not?
Nowadays, with the development of the technology, there are more and more very outstanding technology companies in people’s daily life. As the result of the development of the technology companies, there are also more and more problems between companies and some countries and countries, or companies and companies.
One of the famous example is Skype and China. Skype internet phone ad chat is the best and most popular platform in the world. If you have foreign friends, families and business contacts, you probably need the Skype phone to keep in touching. “ To operate China, the Chinese government requires Skype to work in a joint with a Chinese communication company (Tom), use a modified version of the Skype software, and filter on the sensitive topic from text chat. According to a study by a Canadian university, the modified software allowed widespread surveillance, and TOM stored information from millions of message.”(A Gift of Fire Chapter Three)
Because of this reason, the question, should Skype continue to operate in China under the joint venture with TOM become a very popular question to discuss. Some people say yes, however every coin has two sides , other people say no. In my point of view, I think that Skype should not continue to operate in China under the joint venture with Tom. The first reason is that there are not too many Chinese people use Skype to chat the Internet . In China, there are many Chinese technology company, and Chinese people have their own Chinese Skype, Chinese Facebook and Chinese twitter. Most of them prefer to use their own companies platform, and it is true that it is more convenient to use. Moreover, the Chinese Skype is free for Chinese people to use, and it can help people save more money. Not too many Chinese people want to use Skype in China, although the Chinese market can be a very big cake for the company, it is still very hard to get it. Secondly, the Chinese government is so repressive that there are too many restrictions for Chinese, but I can not say anything. Maybe, Chinese government thinks that it is good for the whole country, and it may have more benefits for the government to control the country.
