Assignment 6: Hate and the Internet
- I think "hate speech" is a kind of radical reflect of freedom of speech.
- Honestly speaking, I agree to place limits on free expression. In my opinion, freedom should be based on limits. We can not do whatever we want without considering others.Limits on freedom of speech can provide us a relative balanced environment. In the meanwhile, it will not be a lot of hurt from speech.
- There should be an international standard so that we won't have differences when dealing with the problem or we will habe trouble when publishing on webpages from other countries.
- The censorship and filtering of hate group websites are appropriate. Although governments have your records of everything, it is really helpful when solving cases. In addition, you don't have to worry about your secrets if you have nothing to hide.
- Creaters of hate-oriented Web sites don't have to be responsible for those crimes. It is the same thing as Facebook. Facebook don't have to take the responsibility of the crime which use it as a tool. They just provide a platform. They never know people will use it for a crime.
- There should be some restrictions on making hate-related speech to children. Children deserved a more comfortable world when surfing Net. Maybe there should be a filter
which can avoid children getting in. For example, people should use their real ID when logging in.
- It should be the same whenever we're onlin or offline. The rule should be equal. It is not only about convenience, it's also related to the equality of laws.
- The standards for hate-related material and pornography should be different. Pornography is a kind of disturbing nature. But hate-realted material is people's thought. People have the right to express their feeling.
