Overview and Income
Pharmaceuticals has been a growing industry in recent years, with more people requiring medications.
Those of the baby boomer generation are growing older, and are requiring many different perscriptions. This field interests
me because it is a small way in which I can help others without the larger stresses of being a doctor.
The Pharmaceutical industry is a well paying field, and the salary fluctuates depending on the job within the industry.
Pharmacists earned about $109,180 on average in 2009. Pharmacy technicians earn considerably less than this, and head pharmacists earn
around 20,000 more than the projected average. The field continues to grow, with job prospects looking good through at least 2018.
Tasks
Pharmacists have many tasks they preform, such as advise physicians and other health practitioners on the selection, dosages, interactions,
and side effects of medications. They also monitor the health and progress of patients in response to drug therapy, advise patients and answer
questions about prescription drugs, including questions about possible side effects and interactions among different drugs.
And finally they are able to provide information and make recommendations about over-the-counter drugs. With this industy in rapid growth with
well paying positions, it seems like a great field to aspire for.
