SSH
Windows Client
Installation

  1. Go to the UNH download page for a self extracting installation package of the Windows workstation client. This will be found by following the directory path

         ssh-n.n ==> workstations ==> SSHWinSecureShellnn.exe
    where n.n and nn is the version number. If multiple version are available, select the latest version. You may want to save the download to disk first, rather than running it from its current location so you can keep a backup copy of the original distribution.

  2. The installation wizard will refer to the software being installed as a 30 day evaluation version. This is OK, proceed with the installation.

  3. SSH provides not only secure terminal emulation, but also secure file transfer. When asked to Select Components, the options related to Command Line Tools may not be already selected. We recommend that these options be selected since this will give you the future option of doing secure automated file transfers using Windows batch files.

  4. The installation will have added SSH Secure Shell as a menu item to your

          Start ==> Programs
    Windows start button menus. Two icons will also be added to your desktop, one for terminal emulation, the other for file transfer.

  5. You'll want to change the default mapping of the delete key so that it sends the ASCII delete character rather than a backspace. To do this, start up the Secure Shell Client (terminal emulator) and select

          Edit ==> Settings...
    Under Profile Settings, click on Keyboard and set
          [ ]  Backspace sends Delete
    . Exit the application. You will be asked
          Current settings have been modified.
          Do you want to save them?
    Answer yes.
