SSH (Secure SHell) is a protocol that provides encrypted terminal communications over the Internet. Use of SSH requires that compatible software be installed at both ends of the connection, typically a host computer system and a desktop workstation. This encryption of terminal session data is needed to prevent eavesdropping by third parties of sensative information, especially login passwords, as it travels over unsecured networks.
The University of New Hampshire has a site license with SSH Communications Security for use of their secure shell server software and clients. SSH Secure Shell for Workstations Windows client is designed to replace insecure protocols such as Telnet and FTP. This page focuses on how to obtain and install a copy of the Microsoft Windows client for use as the preferred terminal emulation and file transfer software for use with the UNH administrative Unix systems.
