We discussed that although some argue that Rigital Rights Management violates the publics right to fair use, I feel that those who create the intellectual property should have the say on what is to be done with it. If there were not no systems protecting intellectual poroperty then nothing would stop people from stealing other's inventions. This could in turn discourage inventors or innovators from attempting to create anything new because they would not necessarily be guaranteed the rights to it. We agreed as a group that people should not have the legal rights to develop, sell, buy and use devices and software to remove rights management restrictions. I must admit though that there are definitely advantages and disadvantages to for example; companies selling music or movies that include digital rights tools that cause files to self-destruct after a certain amount of time. There advantages might be that the creater of the intellectual property would be given greater control over what he has created. A disadvantage, might be that produce DVDs to sell for example, could install a device that makes the DVD self destruct after a while and this would not be fair to whoever buys the DVD. I think that it is only ethical in certain situations for the entertainment business to sell content with such restrictions because some specific cases call for for such restrictions.
