History

Durham House of Pets was founded in 1978 by the Harms family. Steve (the father/current owner) had always grown up with dogs and took such an astounding interest in them. It had always been a dream of his to make a career out of such a passion but could never really find the time nor the opportunity until his 2 boys grew up looking for jobs. This sparked the idea of finally creating a Durham House of Pets (named after the town in New Hampshire in which they lived). The company started by selling multitudes of supplies for all different breeds of dogs. After several years of steady growth the Harms family chose to expand the market by offering cat and fish supplies. Durham House of Pets opened up their website in 2008 and because of its success they opened up 2 new stores; one in Kittery, Maine and another in Stowe, Vermont.
