There wasn't much need for a discussion in our group to know that everyone was sickened by the idea of online predators.
We discussed how we feel there seems to be more predators today than there had been decades ago and we believe that the internet
has unintentionally helped that number grow. With all of the new social media site and forums like Jailbait we're just asking
for these types of things to happen. With sites such as Familywatchdog.com out there that locate all the sex offenders in your area
it can help in some ways to inform people about the dangers in their area. The negative of the site we feel is the exposure that
the other family members will get by having one of their loved ones on the website. Although it's not good them it's fair, the website
is just putting public record online they are doing nothing wrong and people have the right to know these things.
Personally I don't feel as though we're doing enough to prevent these types of things from happening to children. With all
of the sex offenders out there that have access to computers they can very easily find another kid near them and repeat
their crime. I think that sex offenders shouldn't be allowed on social media sites like Facebook and MySpace so they can't
creep on kids. For parents I think that they should definitely use the sites like Familywatchdog.com because they can now
know where the local offenders live and where they shouldn't let their kids go. Other things like the FBI guide to the
internet and shows like To Catch A Predator are useful if properly used. Kids are told to many things and don't remember
half of them, they need to be shown these things. I think that kids should be shown TO Catch A Predator to let them know
what kind of people there are in the world and help them to be more cautious online.
