Assignment 6: Hate and the Internet

  1. In my opinion, hate speech are all the action that incite violence or create prejudical action against an individual.
  2. I will advocate placing limits on free expression in order to deal with the problems posed by hate speech. Those limits are certain actions or words that create discrimination.
  3. I belive that it is good to we reach an international consensus on how to define hate speech, but I think it will not be effective as different countries have different ways of discrimination. An action considered hate speech in this country may be considered normal or polite in other countries.
  4. I think the filtering of hate group websites is not possible because the World Wide Web is too huge that we cannot control it. Hate groups don't event need to create a websites, they can just do hate speech in normal forums. Therefore, it is hard to control hate speech.
  5. I think creators of hate-orientated Websites shouldn't be held responsible for action of lone-wolves. The creators don't instruct anything. The hate-oriented websites are just like argumentative essays, it show one's personal view.
  6. I advocate special restrictions on making hate-related material available to children via the Internet. One of the origins of wars is hatred. Children are pure-beings. We cannot fill hatred into their head. There are enough wars today.
  7. I think there shouldn't be any distinction between what is legal online and what is legal offline because its nature is illegal. It's not matter it is online or offline, if something is illegal, it suppose to be illegal both in online and offline.
  8. I think the standards that apply to hate-related material are different from that of objectionable material such as pornography. Hate-speech is somewhat higher than pornography. It includes the discrimination of race, sex, religion and nationality.
