Four Major Components of Web Design
- Page Layout Design
- Place information above the fold by arranging interesting content higher up on the page.
- Avoid placing important information and navigation on the far right side of the page.
- Text Design
- Long blocks of text and long paragraphs are difficult to read on the Web. Use short setences and paragraphs instead. Be concise.
- Use common fonts such as Arial, Verdana, or Times New Roman.
- Use appropriate color combinations.
- Graphic Design
- Keep both the image file size and the dimensions as small as possible. Display only exactly what is needed to get your point across.
- Make sure the site is usable if images are not displayed
- Image links are used for the mian navigation in the tabs below the logo area. Plain text links should also be provided at the bottom of the page to
provide for accessibility.
- Accessiblilty considerations
- Provide text alternatives for any non-text content.
- Create content that can be presented in different ways.
- Make all functionality available from the keyboard.
- Do not design content in a way that is known to cause seizures.
