Trim Castle and Rock of Cashel

Trim Castle is located in Trim, County Meath on the shores of the Boyne. It is the remains of Irelands largest Anglo-Norman castle, taking over thirty years to build. It was once used as a center of Norman administration for the Liberty of Meath. You may recognize it from the movie Broveheart! It was raining our whole ride there, but when we arrived it cleared up. This allowed us to go on the balcony and see the views which were beautiful.

The Rock of Cashel, also known as Cashel of the Kings and St. Patricks Rock, is located in Munster. The Rock of Cashel was the traditional seat of the kings of Munster for hundreds of years before the Norman invasion. Very few pieces of the early structures are still standing. The majority of the buildings on the site today are from the 12th and 13th centuries. The structures that remain are stunning, and so are the views from the top of the hill. This was one of my favorite places we went to while on our trip because the structures, although old, were still well preserved. I was amazed that they are still standing after so many years.
