HTML

            A set of markup symbols or codes placed in a file intended for display on a web browser page.

HTML is a structural language intended to markup up printed material intended for online viewing.

Benefits

Portable document format not tied to any specific application or platform other than the browser.

Disadvantages

Has a finite set of tags.
Primarily defines text and images.
Lacks flexibilty to display the web page on other devices other than a computer monitor.

XHTML

A descriptive language that provides a foundation for device-independent web pages.
User creates their own tags
Can display non-traditional content.

                  2. Save as .html file
                  3. Open the file in a browser
                  4. Edit in Notepad and view in browser by refreshing the screen
