Group 3 | Intellectual Property Issues

My group believes that the approach shouldn't be adopted. People who develop software for a living would be out of a job. We think that if Free Software were available, the quantity of software would definitely increase significantly, because people would be taking other peoples' softwares and creating new ones with just a slightly different twist. We think the quality overall would decrease because many people would begin trying to make software themselves and may not be so good at it initially.

We don't see the current funding methods for free software would be sufficient, because so many people would be attempting to make software that it may be to large a number. Many people now are pirating and illegally downloading software, so that should be kept in consideration. When it comes to music, so much is already illegally downloaded that there may not be much available to do. We believe that if software has a good use, then I believe it should be copyrighted. But such as software that a beginner created that isn't useful, it shouldn't be copyrightable.
