Well folks it looks like we will see an NBA season after all. The lockout has probrobly been one of the most breath taking events bball lovers as myself have experienced in a while. No.. it's not to say that seeing who got voted off of survivor last week wasn't breath taking but come on.. were talking a multi-million dollar industry versus a modern day Gilligans Island with people fighting over peanut butter. None the less the agreement wasn't all gravy when it came down to it. Because of the lockout fans can look forward to an action packed 66 game season with every team playing numerous days back to back games. This will definitly make it tough for teams like the Celtics who are playing 19 back to backs and one daughnting back-to-back-to-back. Hopefully Shaq left some icy hot pads with his former teammates because this will definitly be a rough stretch for the aging C's.
When a professional league isn't in session, people buy less of the league’s product. It’s as simple as that. So it should come as no surprise that the prolonged NBA lockout is costing Adidas, the NBA’s official jersey and apparel maker, millions of dollars. $50 million dollars, in fact. That’s how much money an industry analyst says the brand could lose if the NBA season were canceled.
NBA players have until Wednesday to accept Commissioner David Stern's latest offer, though the response already seems obvious. But the next proposal promises to be worse, surely moving players & owners even further apart and threatening to destroy the season. Early Sunday morning, the league said it offered players up to 51 percent of basketball-related income, a figure the union insists is fiction. Regardless, it will drop to 47 percent Wednesday if players don't accept the current offer by the league-imposed deadline. No agreement by the deadline likely will trigger more calls to disband the union and take on the league in court, a battle that would take months.
