Our History
The history of the Durham House of Pets dates back to 1915 when it first opened it's doors and continues to serve the community of Durham today more than 95 years later. Howard Lange originally bought the property in 1910 before he converted his small family farm house to a pet store five years later. Originally, DHP only sold home-made cat and dog food. Soon after, DHP grew in business due to people's high demand in dog and cat food. New products eventually emerged from this growth including new fish supplies and a larger dog and cat supplies inventory. Today, DHP remains the oldest family owned and run pet store in the country, making it one of the most well-known pet stores in all of New England.
