Solar Physics 101:
Coronal Mass Ejections (aka CMEs) are in fact quite poorly named. True, mass is ejected from the corona. But, as (or more) important is the magnetic flux and helicty expelled with CMEs.
You can learn more about Coronal Mass Ejections on wikipedia for example. Studying CMEs is important for predicting aurora, but also for many other space weather applications.
However, if you really want to know what solar physics is, this article will not help.
