Past REU students:
  • Jorge Nicolas Hernandez Charpak in the summer of 2009 at the Institute for Astronomy, University of Hawaii. Jorge came from the Universitad de los Andes in Bogota (Colombia) and is now a graduate student in CU Bouler. This summer work resulted in the publication of an article in the Astrophysical Journal with Jorge as second author. Jorge also presented his work at the Fall AGU as well as the AGU meeting of the Americas in Foz de Iguassu in 2010.

  • Paul Kintner in the summer of 2011 at the Institute for Astronomy, University of Hawaii. Paul came from the University of Rochester. This summer work resulted in the publication of two articles in Solar Physics with Paul as second author.
NSF/SHINE workshop (for graduate students and researchers):
I have recently become the workshop coordinator for the yearly SHINE workshop. Travel for graduate students and some post-doctoral researchers is funded through a grant from NSF. The 2014 workshop took place in Telluride, CO. The 2015 workshop will take place at the Stoweflake resort in Stowe, VT from July 6 to 10 (student-only day July 5).

Proposed summer school in space physics for undergraduate students:
In 2012, with colleagues from New England, and help from C. Smith, I proposed to start a summer school in space physics targeted specifically for undergraduate students. This summer school would be held under the auspices of the New England Space Science Consortium. A slightly shortened version of the proposal we sent to NSF can be found here. This endeavor has not been successful so far, but we are bound to propose it again, in the future to NSF or NASA.
