Amir Painda, tribal leader
His driver, seriously injured

on January 31, 2009
near
Orgun-e in Paktika Province. U.S. occupation forces in a convoy opened fire
upon a civilian car. Even the provincial governor, Mohammad Akram Khelpilwak, a
Karzai appointee, admitted U.S. fire wounded the two occupants. One, Amir
Painda, died at a nearby hospital whereas the driver was seriously injured.
Painda, a former mujahideen and anti-Soviet fighter, was a district provincial
chief and member of the Kharoti tribe.
