arrested civilians

May 23, 2009 in Tarin Kot, Uruzgan
Province. Foreign occupation troops and Afghan forces raided homes and arrested
17 locals as well as Mirakhan, a nominee of the Barakzai tribe in the
provincial council elections. The arrestees were whisked away. Mirakhan was
released the following day. He claimed that the troops stole money and jewelry
from his home. He also stated that the others arrested were innocent civilians.
The following day more than a hundred people protested against the NATO-led
