on May 23, 2009

in Tarin Kot, Uruzgan Province. Foreign occupation troops and Afghan forces raided homes and arrested 17 locals as well as Mirakhan, a nominee of the Barakzai tribe in the provincial council elections. The arrestees were whisked away. Mirakhan was released the following day. He claimed that the troops stole money and jewelry from his home. He also stated that the others arrested were innocent civilians. The following day more than a hundred people protested against the NATO-led raid. Winning hearts & minds?
