injured around 2 AM, July 1, 2002

in the village of Kakarak in Uruzgan Province. Shah Bibi, wife of Shah Wali (35, farmer), a village dressmaker, survived the ferocious U.S. attack with only a broken leg. She recalls, “one minute we were all dancing in he headlights of a tractor, drumming, singing, children setting off firecrackers and men firing Kalashnikovs as we do to mark a celebration, then suddenly the bombs started dropping…there was so much noise that we never heard the planes coming. Then it was chaos, dust everywhere, bodies flying like straw.”
