Sayed Lal (24)’s 11 family members – sisters, brothers, nephews, nieces

around Musa Qala, Helmand Province. We know about this case because of a report by Declan Walsh, an independent (un-embedded) reporter, filed from Lashkar Gah. A fierce battle pitted British occupation soldiers against Taliban resistance fighters. The besieged British called in close air support. A NATO bomb ripped through Sayed Lal’s home killing 11 of his relatives – sisters, brothers, nephews and nieces. An angry Lal, 24, with blazing green eyes said, “Why did the British need to do this?” Two months later, the British withdrew from Musa Qala.
