in the village of Mashkhel in the Jaji-Maydan district of Khost, abutting Parachinar, Pakistan. Two U.S warplanes struck Mashkhel killing 4 men sitting in ‘Etkaaf’ in front of the Saqawa mosque. Among the dead were two old men – Haji Fakhrak and Dadan Khan. The attack also injured Palwasha, 6, when U.S shrapnel severed her spinal chord. Two weeks earlier, U.S planes had struck Mashkhel killing 10 civilians. The target was probably an old abandoned mujahideen training camp. Fortified mujahideen bases had been built with U.S money and expertise in the 1980s. Reportedly, former guerrilla fighters said bin Laden and al-Zawahri met regularly in the cave complexes at Jaji.
