injured in October 2001

in a neighborhood in Kabul. Framoz, 12, was playing soccer outside with friends when a U.S. bomb aimed at a Taliban anti-aircraft gun exploded. He lost his leg. Framoz said, “it is worth it if there is complete freedom, otherwise it’s not worth it,” adding that “it’s not just me, many people have been hurt by the American bombing.” Framoz has a fiancée and hopes that, “maybe when I get this [prosthetic] leg I will go back to school” (photo and research by Rick Loomis)
