Behram Shah’s 3 daughters and a son

Died in the night of October 22-23, 2001

In the village of Shakar Qala, 3 kms. northeast of Herat. The village was heavily cluster-bombed by U.S warplanes as they targeted a nearly Taliban garrison. The bombing killed 3 daughters and a son of the Shah family. The Shah family of eight (including 4 daughters and 2 sons) lived in Herat. On the fourth day of the U.S attacks, Behram Shah discovered an unexploded Tomahawk Cruise missile while he was out scavenging. He sold the metal and bought two healthy goats. His daughters then supplied milk to a nearby hospital at the garrison.
