In memory of

30 civilians

on July 13/14, 2008

in two villages (Katgal and Nishgram) in the Waygal district of Nuristan close to the border with Kunar. The resistance mounted a fierce attack on a new U.S. occupation base in Want. Close air support by a B-1B, A-10’s and Apache helicopters resulted in heavy bombing and casualties. Officials – the deputy governor of Nuristan and the police - in the region reported about 30 innocent civilians had been killed.

Predictably, the U.S. military denied any civilian casualties and trotted out the tired mantra, “ISAF always operates giving the highest importance to protecting civilians, and deeply regrets any instances where civilians are mistakenly killed.” Amen
