in a hamlet located between Musa Qala and Kajaki, Helmand Province. The NATO night-time attack struck a large compound allegedly targeting a local Taliban leader. A local elder, Haji Ibrahim, said the strike killed 18 civilians all family members of the compound’s owner, Haji Qasim, as well as 12 Taliban militants spending the night there. A local Taliban commander said 13 members of a family died. The NATO response was typical: Colonel Tom Collins noted, “It is a well-known enemy tactic to blame civilian casualties on ISAF forces.” Case closed.
