Assignment 6:Hate and the Internet

  1. I think hate speech is using bad words to attack on a person or a group because of race, class, religion and special personal orientation.
  2. When we use the right of freedom expression, we should respect the right of others. Meanwhile, we can not harm national, social and collective interests. So I support placing limits on free expression. In my opinion, our speech can not be in violation of the law.
  3. We should not reach an international consensus on hate speech, because each country has different national conditions. There are different racial, different class, and there are also differences in the law. Countries are not on the same standard of openness. Each country should make their relevant laws according to their own national situation.
  4. Freedom would be transformed into a world of violence without regulation.The censorship and filtering of hate group websites are appropriate. The networld is not free. People can involve in the network freely, but the illegal and anti-moral speech would be mixed in. Then checker need to check and clean up the network to protect the network environment clean.
  5. No. Creators can't control the behaviours of users. Users should responsible for their own behaviors.
  6. Yes, I agree advocate special restrictions on making hate-related material available to children via the Internet. Before people enter the website, the website could identify users' age through voice recognition in order to determine whether the user can access the website.
  7. The law of online and offline should be same. Otherwise someone may take advantage of online law or offline law to do some bad things.
  8. No. Pornography and other objectionable material can directly lead to crime. Hate-related material can effect other's thinking. So I think the standards that apply to hate-related material should be different from the standards that apply to other objectionable material such as pornography.
