Assignment 6:Hate and the Internet

  1. The hate speech means that somebody said very harmful and sick words on the internet, these words could make people feel uncomfortable and hurt other people.
  2. People cannot make a clear different between the freedom speech and hate speech, because we should know that when we agree with the freedom speech, we have already agreed with hate speech which cannot be avoid.
  3. People can attempt to reach an international consensus on how to define hate speech. But we cannot agree that set up the same standards of international consensus. We come from the different countries, so we have different cutures and traditions. For instance, as a chinese student, I can say any words in America, but I can say the unsatisfied words about the government, because those words will be thought into hate speech.
  4. I think the censorship and the filtering of hate group websites is ever appropriate. For example, my computer always prevent me from those mess advertisments. Additionally, on some webpages, we will see the botton of Repot which can help people eliminate the hate speech sources.
  5. Those creators of hate-oriented Web sites should be held responsible for actions of people who view those sites and then commit hate crimes. Those people propagandized the hate speech and hate matierals. They influenced people's values.
  6. Of cause that people should advocate special restrictions on making hate-related material available to children via the Internet. People can make limits on some websites to avoid children serching into those websites. Also, people can be educated that how to use computers correctly, and how to educate their children with using internet correctly.
  7. No, I think it is very clear between what is legal online and what is legal offline. Because there is no clear distinction about the legal online and legal offline.
  8. Yes, in my view, hate-related marterials do harm to some particular people, however, other objectionable marterials like violent contents and pornographic contents harm all people who have seen them.
