The first game ever held there was back in May 8 th of 1901 with an audience of 11,500. At that game Cy Young pitched as the Sox earned a 12-4 victory over the Philly Athletics.

What's With The Name?

Fenway was built in the Fens part of Boston. Therefore the Red Sox owner at the time, John I. Taylor decided to name it Fenway Park. Also an interesting fact, John also changed the original team name from the Pilgrims to the Red Sox in 1907.
