CHECKING AND REVISIONS NEEDED BEFORE USING
TRANSLATIONS OF THE IDV STUDY QUESTIONNAIRE
The first non-English version of the IDV study questionnaire was used in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico in October 2001. Since then, there have been a few changes in the questionnaire. If you are using the English version from this website (IDM9), it includes all the revisions. If you are using one on the early translations, it may have been translated before some of the revisions. Consequently, you need to first examine the questionnaire to make sure it includes the changes listed below. If it does not, make those changes before using the questionnaire.
When there are two translations into the same language, it is advisable to compare them for differences. For example, there are two Spanish and two French translations.
QUESTION NUMBERS FOR translation IDQ 04 SPANISH by Ignacio Luis Ramirez. This was done before the single answer sheet came into use. The students responded using three answer sheets. Consequently, the question numbers start over three times. You should renumber the questions as a single continuous series. The numbering should correspond with those in the English version on the IDV study website. You should also delete the information about three answer sheets. However, IDQ 36 SPANISH is based on the most recent and updated questionnaire.
BOLD TYPE: A scanner was used to create the file of translated questionnaires. This resulted in a number of words being printed in bold type that were in normal type in the original. When you prepare copies for use at your site, you can try to use the Adobe program to eliminate the bold type, or you can retype the questionnaire.
THE FOLLOWING NEED TO BE CHECKED ONLY FOR TRANSLATIONS WITH NUMBERS UNDER IDQ 20. Most will have already made these changes. But to be on the safe-side, check that the following changes have been made.
INSTRUCTIONS AT START OF PART 2 WHICH SAYS “If a question doesn't’ apply to you or to the relationship described, please mark “strongly disagree” as your answer.” Changed to:
