The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is the world’s larges arts festival. It was established in 1946, it takes place in the capital of Scotland every year for four weeks during August along with several other arts and cultural festivals know as the “Edinburgh Festival.” The Fringe Festival is by far the largest of any of the festivals involved with the Edinburgh Festival. The Fringe Festival mostly attracts events particularly from the performing arts such as theatre, improve, comedy, and music.
The selection committee is very lenient and welcomes all forms of talent from High School or College level theatre, to professional or self-employed companies. One can often find world primers at the festival, or projects that are still in the experimental phase, as well as comedy shows and plays and musicals from the works Shakespeare to modern contemporary plays; and musicals from Les Miserable to High School Musical.
I had the pleasure of performing in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2008, when I went with my High School to perform the Marx Brothers comedy “Animal Crackers.” It was truly one of the best experiences of my life and I would strongly recommend visiting Scotland in the month of August so you can be a part of the fringe festival. Promotion for the festival can be found along the royal mile during business hours throughout the month of August.
