Educating through the Arts!!!

A Teacher's Guide to Arts Integration.

Why don't more educators use Arts Integration?
Why don't we use it more or do we?
I surveyed 40 NH educators about what they thought of arts integration, here are their reasons for not always using the arts in their classrooms:
~ Time constraints are huge with the requirement of a set # of hours on the core subjects of rdg. wrg. and math. ~ Integrating arts requires additional planning and materials preparation that teachers often don't have time for. The many programs we teach now also don't allow time for the arts.
~ More work/planning ... distracts students. ~ Maybe it's a personal comfort level or a misconception that when kids are active and moving there's a lack of control.
~ Can be hard to find activities/lessons. To a certain extent, I think that these are valid arguments. However, the time constraint can be dealt with by actually integrating art into the lessons.
