Batman was dreamed up by Bob Kane in 1938. After thinking up the idea of Batman he called up Bill Finger to look at his creation and give him some help with the fine tuning. Batman appeared in his first comic in May 1939, Detective Comics #27.

Although Frank Miller didn't exactly create Batman i think that he was a very important part in the evolution of Batman as a character. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns was released in 1986 and it gave Batman a new gritty and dark image. In 1987 Batman: Year one was released which was an origin story for Batman and continued with his new dark and gritty image. In 2001 Batman: The Dark Knight Strikes Again was launched which was a sequel to The Dark Knight Returns. Millers next Batman graphic novel is to be Holy Terror, Batman! in which Batman fights Al-Qaeda. Frank Millers portrayal of Batman is definitely my favorite and is one of the reason why I find Batman so appealing.
