History Durham House of Pets (DHP) was founded by Alyssa Berg in 2002. In 10 years DHP has become a well-known pet store across the U.S. Alyssa Berg first started this pet store business as an interest, but it later grew into a career. At the start-up of DHP, products were mainly sold to friends and neigbors who had dogs, cats and fish. Clean-up tools and pet food were the main necessities people needed. She started this business in the basement of her home until she had enough money to rent out a shop in downtown Durham. DHP got its business going right after settling into things. Many people walked and drove past DHP everyday and were curious to what DHP was. DHP was the first pet shop opened in Durham that has doggie day & overnight care. This new pet shop was a success, and within 5 years after opening the first store, Alyssa had opened stores in 10 more locations in the U.S. By 2006, DHP had expanded into other New England areas, such as Portland (ME), Burlington (VT), Boston (MA), and more areas.
