Stunting
Basically, stunting is when members of a team lift one member up in the air on either one or two legs. These teammates together are called a stunt group which consists of, a flyer, the one that is lifted in the air, bases, the ones underneath holding the person up, backspot, the one in the back helping the bases hold up the flyer and lastly, if needed, a frontspot, who helps support the front. Stunts can range from the basics like a prep which is when each base has one of the flyers feet and holds it at shoulder level, to an extension which is like a prep but the bases hold the flyers feet above their head, to any one legged stunt. These stunts can be put together with transitions and other cool skills to perform a stunting sequence.
Most Common Types of Stunts
- Liberty
- Also know as a lib, a flyer is on one leg and the other leg is bent with the foot at the knee.
- Heel Stretch
- The flyer is on one leg and holds her other leg up as far as she can, locked right next to her head, and with that side legs hand.
- Bow and Arrow
- Also known as the bow, the flyer brings her leg right next to her head holding it with the opposite sides hand, and puts the other hand in front of her leg next to her head.
- Arabesque
- When the flyer is on one leg, she extends her other leg back and puts her arms out. She keeps her chest paralell with the ground or high if possible.
- Scale
- The flyer is on one leg and brings her other leg back and holds it at the ankle or calf with one hand.
- Scorpion
- Like a scale, but instead the flyer holds her other foot with both hands and extends it above her head as far as she can.
- Basket Toss
- Most of the times a front spot is used, the bases position their hands in a box so the flyer can step on the tops of their hands. They then bounce the flyer and throw her up into the air and from there, there are many things she can do like, a toetouch (legs open in a stradle), tuck (front or back), kick twist (a kick with a 360° spin or 720° for a double.

Dismounts
A dismount is when the stunt is over andthe flyer is thrown into the air and caught by the stunt group at stomach level. It can also be known as a cradle. The three most common types of dismounts at the high school levels are...
- Straight ride
- The flyers legs are straight and caught the whole time and goes up into the air and back down into the stunt groups arms facing up.
- Twist
- A straight ride with a 360° spin staying straight and landing in the groups arms facing up.
- Double Twist
- The same as a twist just spinning 720° instead.
