Snowboarding
The History
It is hard to say who exaclty came up with the first concept of a snowboard but as the story goes a father was watching their child try to stand on a sled and try to make their way down a hill. The man then cut a
plank out of plywood and used some sort of twine to secure the childs feet to the board. Accourding to ledgend M.J. "Jack" Burchett was one of the first to develope this concept of a snowboard in 1929. It was not
until 1965 thirty years later did Sherman Poppen build in this idea and develope the snurfer. Poppen, a chem engineer, created this toy for his daughter to play with in the snow. The snurfer consisted
of two skis bound together with a rope attached on the tips to help with balance. Poppen noticed that many of his duaghters friends were interested in this product so he licensed his idea and held small competitions. These compitions
attracted a man named Jake Burton who would later become a very influential part of snowboarding. In the meantime Demitrije Milovich caught onto the idea in produced his first snowboard, taking a surfboard and applying
some technology from skis, in 1969. From there the sport exploded in popularity and progressed into what it is today, afun, exciting sport and more significantly: a sport that can be done freestyle!
