As with Microsoft Excel, you may be unsure as to how Microsoft Access can be
applied to sports training. Well, Microsoft Access and Microsoft Excel are closely related software. How we use Microsoft Excel,
explained in our Excel page, plays into the broader scope of our use of Access. Each athlete takes "exams" to measure their progress
from the beginning of their training here at The Facility. Their scores are recorded into personal spreadsheets, displaying
their progress over a 20 week period. The spreadsheets are then taken and entered into a database of all the athletets
currently training. With this database, we show the athletes their overall performance and ranking in comparison
to the rest of the training athletes. We find that this encourages competition, lending to an overall increased
performance from all of our athletes.
We also use the data stored within the database for our own research. We use it to track the overall efectiveness
of our training exercises, the effectiveness of our training as a whole on the athletes, and other such things.
This data helps us make decisions on which direction to take the program, potential weaknesses that we need to
compensate for, and so on. Overall it has been a very useful tool in furthering not only the success of our
athletes, but our ability to train them as well.
