Longboarding is a fun sport but it is also dangerous. When riding a longboard always wear a helmet. A longboard is a surfing variant of a skateboard, similar and related to a surfboard or snowboard with wheels. Also make sure to stay hydrated by either drinking H₂O or a sports drink. This helps you stay focused on hot days.

There are all different styles of longboarding. The 1^st style is downhill longboarding. This style is very hard and only experienced longboarders should do this. When downhill longboarding it is very common to reach speeds of over 40 mph. Another style of longboarding is cruising. This style is very relaxed and what you would most commonly see around UNH. Other than those two styles there is;

downhill racing, slalom racing, sliding, and/or transport. However, most stunts, and the boards themselves are very different from that of a typical skateboard. They usually are designed for the descent of a hill, slides, carves, manual or "dancing" with the board.

Before longboarding...

The best thing to do before buying a longboard is to try someone else’s longboard and see how you like it. This will allow you to make judgments on how you like the style, length, trucks, etc… When you buy your longboard you are going to have to put it together. Most companies will not ship longboards intact. If you bought a full setup the shipment will include:

• Trucks
• Bushings
• Wheels
• Bearings
  • There should be 8 bearings included.
• Longboard
• Knuts
• Bolts

While longboarding...

When you go out to start longboarding the best places are low-traffic areas. Any place without cars or pedestrians. When you find a spot like that it is now time to start longboarding. Something to look for when you start longboarding is which stance you feel more comfortable riding in. The two stances are your left foot forward or your right foot forward. Another thing to look for is which foot you like to push with. When you do go out to longboard make sure to bring a ratchet set that can fit the bushings on the trucks. This will allow you to loosen or tighten the boards turning ability.

My Longboard

Many people like to buy there longboards online and have been designed by someone who works for the company they are buying from. A friend of mine started his own longboarding company and I was able to build my board from scratch. My board is a drop through deck. When the board was finished I was then able to design the board any way I wanted to. I went with a Rasta color scheme for the top, and a design I made on the bottom which is my initials. Most people ask me What is that design on the bottom of your board?
