The first step to joining a fraternity is going through the rush process. Rushing week is when an individual has the opportunity to go to what ever fraternity they want to get to know the brothers and see where they would fit in best. As Alpha Sig we host different events that gives the individual an opportunity to hang out with the brothers without being in an awkward situation. For exmaple, on a Sunday we will host a giant barbeque and on Monday we can have an event such as a poker tournament. On Thursday we host a formal dinner with the selected individuals we believe best fit the house. The brothers then meet up and choose who we feel will truly contribute in a possitive way to the house. On Friday we then hand out bids which is a formal invitation to become a brother of Alpha Sigma Phi. The individual has the ability to decline or accept the offer and if they accept the pledge process then starts
The pledging process is on average about 8 weeks longs. It is viewed as an educational time where the individual learns the history and what Alpha Sigma Phi stands for along with getting to really know the brothers on a personal level. It is the time where a pledge class grows to become as 1 and help eachother out to overcome tasks.
There are a lot of myths abouts fraternities and hazing. Hazing was a problem years back, but that has significantly changed. Alpha Sigma Phi along with 20 other fraternities and sororities have come together to create a toll free Anti-Hazing Hotline. This hotline allows individuals to call anonymously if they suspect them or someone they know is being hazed. There is a zero tolerance policy on hazing and will become nationally unrecognized by the fraternity.
The table below shows all 20 fraternities and sororities involved in the Anti-Hazing Hotline.
