At the University of New Hampshire we will be concidered the Beta Eta Chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi. There are 2 other categories a fraternity must reach before they are considered a chapter. First, is an interest group, then it becomes a colony, and finally once all goals and standards are met Alpha Sigma Phi then recognizes the house as a full chapter. It takes a lot of hard work to make sure the goals are reached and we have successfully completed that task and will now go through the ceremony symbolizing that we are a full chapter.
Our house is on 2 Strafford Ave in Durham New Hampshire located near Stoke Hall. The house itself has a lot of history to it. It was first Phi Kappa Sigma then to Chi Phi Alpha and now we are a nationally recognized chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi. There are currently 38 brothers living in the house, but has the capacity to hold more which will be filled when our pledge class of 23 members moves in.
There are huge benefits to being nationally recognized. They offer leadership programs, and other work shops to better social and business skills. They also provide an attorney for any matters that come up. The overall feeling of having something in common with over 60,000 people around the United States is a great feeling and it gives you a sense of pride and self worth.
