
At the turn of the twentith century it was clear that some sort of leadership position was needed for the promising sport, football. In 1904, Federation Internationale de Football Association was established in France where it was given its name and acronym, FIFA. FIFA has now become the governing body of all football, referred to in the States as soccer. Run out of Zurich, Switzerland, FIFA is comprised of two hundred and eight members, including club and national teams.
Due to the interest in the sport and the amount of members, serveral other branches have been formulated creating the structure of the organization. The branches are:

Of all the different confederations in the world, the UEFA league by far is the most competitive and is the reason most of the stars in the world play in this league. The following pages give a small background of the three most powerful leagues in the UEFA confederation and the top teams in each. Although FIFA has become more and more powerful around the world, its main objective is not football. For years the corporation has been intrigued by the positive influence football has had over the audience, hence its slogan "For the Game, For the World."
