As a group, we discussed the approach of Free Software. We came up with a defintion of Free Software which is that it allows the users to run, copy, improve, and change the software. We think that this approach should be adopted, it could potentially allow for significant and creative changes to the software we have now.
I think that if we adopted this approach, the quality and quantity of software that we currently have would improve massively because of the ability to access and adapt the software. There would need to be more funding for this software to be produced, because of the amount of it being accesed. I think that the restrictions for the current software licensing would have to become a little less strict in order for the use of free software to be more effective. When it comes to music, I think it should be allowed just as long as the free music is being changed or altered in some way, not just copied. One of people's arguements for copying software are that it is too expensive, no one would be buying it anyway so why not just give it away free. I think that most software should be copyrightable because it is someone's idea that they came up with on their own and no one else should be able to take credit for that.
