In our class group discussion, we talked about the saftey of the internet and how online predators are endangering it. As a group, we came up with a definition of what an online predator actually is. An online predator is a person who by using the internet, tries to get in contact with younger people (usually under the legal age of consent) in order to solicit and obtain some kind of sexual relationship. We all came up with the conclusion that there should be much more done in order to prevent this kind of innapropriate behavior from happening. There needs to be harsher punishment for these criminals and there should be more done about the prevention of this from going on.
I think that there should be a lot more done about the online predators. There needs to be stricter laws and more done to enforce them. These criminals also need to have more severe punishments for the serious crimes they committed. I also think that there needs to be a lot more awareness for both parents and children about what online predators are and what they can do to maintain their safety online. With the harmful exposure done to the family of the online predator, I believe that there is not much that can be done about it. When an online predator is caught, his identity needs to be exposed in order to protect others and for this criminal to get the punishment he deserves.
