I suppose I should write one more time before the year 2000. Throughout the week I always think of things I want to mention, but when I get here I forget. I'll try to start writing things down. Now a lot of people say this isn't really the end of the century or Millennium. I look at it like this, when you turn 20 years old for example, that means you've lived 20 years, so, if it is the year 2000, then 2000 years have gone by. People just always assume their way is right, BUT "IT DOESN'T MATTER WHICH WAY IS RIGHT", as the Rock would say.
What will happen in pro wrestling in 2000. It seems like the Rock will be the star of the coming year. Austin will probably turn heel. The WWF will continue to defeat WCW in the ratings. I got the February 2000 WWF Magazine in the mail already. DX is on the cover. It is interesting that after 2 years, this group of 4 is still together. Clearly unheard of for 4 guys to stay together for 2 years. I would say they are much better as a group than individually. I've finally started to be more interested in HHH's angles. I was surprised he didn't win the title from the Big Show on RAW. I know a lot of people think the Big Show has gone a step down after leaving WCW, but hopefully he can turn that around this year. Perhaps if they forget the whole Big Boss Man angle, and give the Big Show some interesting material with guys like the Undertaker and Kane, then the fans will become more interested. I'm looking forward to the Rock's book. I read the first chapter at his website, and heard it's only half the size of Mankind's book. I didn't buy Mankind's book in a bookstore, seeing I got one from Shopzone, so it'll be interesting to see where the Rock's book is placed. I saw Mankind's book on the bottom shelf the week it was #1. Seems at least some bookstores don't want to make it stand out. I did hear one lady ask for it one day in a bookstore.
What will people remember about pro wrestling from the 1900s? Probably Hulkamania and Stone Cold Steve Austin. Hopefully people won't forget things that occurred prior to the recent popularity. I'll always remember things like the first Wrestlemanias, Hulkamania, WWF ice cream bars, the Rock N' Wrestling Connection, Piper's Pit, the legends like Bruno Sammartino, Ric Flair, the Von Erichs, Andre the Giant, the days of the Macho Man Randy Savage with Elizabeth and Sensational Sherri, Saturday Night's Main Event, RAW, the debut of the Undertaker, World Class Championship Wrestling, I know I know, I'm not going much further than the 1980s. I admit it can be hard to learn wrestling history unless you're watching video tapes. I have always, and continue to find it difficult to follow any history about wrestlers or promotions that I am not familiar with. For example, it's very hard for me to read long articles about independent promotions, their matches and angles, when I don't know who the people are. I'm just not good at keeping it all straight when I have no idea what the people look like, their relation to each other, etc. The best way to learn wrestling history for me is clearly through watching old footage. We all know there's far too much for any one person to know it all, however hard some may try. When I read letters from people who say their first favorite wrestler was the 1-2-3 Kid, or someone from the early 1990s, I can't imagine a wrestling fan not having experienced what so many of us did in the 1980s. I'm sure the generation before me says the same thing about the 1970s and 1960s. We can only imagine what will happen in the 2000s. I remember someone asked Vince when he was going to get rid of the ring. Hopefully that will never happen.
With women like Tori, Jackie, Luna, and Ivory, why does Miss Kitty have the Women's Title. She clearly doesn't need it for popularity. I would say it's time to give it to the women who have been wrestling for many years and never have gotten an opportunity to hold it, like Luna and Jackie. I know a lot of people thought it was a disgrace to have the Fabulous Moolah and Mae Young feuding with Jeff Jarrett and Moolah winning the Women's Title again, but I'm hoping she wins it again in 2000. Then she'll have held the Women's Title in how many decades? 6? Both of them are very entertaining, and hopefully they will receive more respect from fans this year. People are way too harsh about the age thing.
What is happening to Test? I thought he was going to receive a big push? Well he did, but now look. I hope Test will be able to make his way back up the ladder this year. As for Kurt Angle, I think he's great. I sense that he'll turn face sometime in 2000. He's getting the same kind of reaction as the Rock first got on his debut. It seems people may not think Angle deserves all these wins when he's a newcomer, and they just don't want to listen to him. However, he seems like he'll be very successful this year, perhaps winning the Intercontinental Title. Oh yeah, with HHH bringing back some meaning to the World Title, hopefully the same will happen with the other titles. The Outlaws are a great tag team and I'd like to see them against the Acolytes, the Hardy Boyz, Too Cool, the Hollys, etc. The Godfather needs to add something to his gimmick, some new phrases, some disruption in the train, something new!! If that were the Rock's gimmick, he'd have a new line at least every month! It's hard to believe that was Mick Foley's last match on RAW. But when you look at it, how better for him to leave than losing to his friend the Rock. I'm sure he'll still be around now and then. Where does this leave Al Snow? Maybe Al can find a way to take Mick's place as the Rock's friend. The Rock and Head Connection?
Of course it seems that Tori is working for DX, trying to get Kane to go after Test on Monday and saying she had a great time with X-Pac. All that is fine and good, but what happens when the truth is revealed? I just can't see Tori being a part of DX, unless of course they're just using her, which could very well be the case. Oh, I haven't been talking about WCW too much. I turned on Nitro after RAW was over and saw Bret running backstage and then when the monster truck came out and it probably wasn't even Bret in it...haven't we seen that before? and done much better? I guess the 2 writers who left the WWF really aren't what makes the Monday Night shows. The WWF has remained as entertaining, if not more, since they left.
I want to thank everyone who visits my web page. I've been doing this for about two and a half years now. It is purely a hobby and it's been great that so many of you have enjoyed what I've done, and that we've been able to share information and experiences about wrestling. Of course if I had nothing to do all day but work on my site it would be a lot better, but I do what I can. I want to do more of these commentaries, but I need your feedback, what do you want me to write about? Are they too boring? Are they interesting? Email me and let me know. I hope to see you all back next year!

I'm watching the E! Story on Hogan right now, and it looks like it will be pretty boring. We all know the story, and it doesn't look like any WWF footage will be shown. However, it's just started, so we'll see I guess.
I thought the Boss Man/Big Show angle was over. Actually, I don't care if they continue to feud, but I thought all that disgusting stuff they were doing with Big Show's parents was over. I have no idea how they could think anyone would want to view that. The Big Show is one wrestler that may have made a mistake leaving WCW. The fans don't seem to like the Big Show much, or it's not even that, there's just nothing to be excited about so far. Hopefully that will change. So far he's fought with Steve Austin, HHH, Boss Man, he's been to the top, won the title, yet it doesn't seem like it happened. I'm not surprised to hear he will be losing the title soon. It's really too bad. Maybe when the Undertaker returns he will gain the credibility he needs.
What wrestler do I believe will make it in the next year or two? Kurt Angle. I think he's great. It reminds me of when Rocky Maivia arrived. He got the same type of reaction. Long before the Rock took the mic regularly, I had said they should let him give interviews and everyone told me I must be the only Rock fan on Earth. I guess things change!! So I'm saying it right now about Angle. (Seeing there's no WWF footage here, at least we get to see lots of photos/footage of Hogan that I've never seen. I can't wait to see how they handle the WWF years - the most important years too!).
I finally enjoy watching HHH. It sure took long enough, but the McMahon-Helmsley Era is hilarious. RAW and Smackdown were great this week. At first I thought Stephanie teaming with HHH was stupid, but once she reminded us all of what Vince had done, it all falled in to place. Stephanie does a much better job with HHH. Let's see, what matches could they make for RAW this Monday? How about Patterson vs. Brisco, Test vs. Acolytes, Mankind vs. New Age Outlaws, or why not HHH vs. Big Show? Why wouldn't he give himself a title shot? I wonder how long HHH and Stephanie will stay together though. It has occurred to me that HHH will dump her after he gets everything he wants, like the WWF Title!
We all know why Steve Austin isn't on TV, but why isn't Debra at least at RAW once and awhile? I know they're a couple, but it seems the WWF could use Debra, unless they have a plan of course. She may come back and find a new #1 lady though, like The Kat. Speaking of the women, Tori has come a lot further than I ever thought she would. Lots of couples lately: Kane and Tori, HHH and Stephanie, Mark Henry and Mae Young, Luna and Gangrel, (we're up to 1982 on Hogan's story).
Nice to see Scott Taylor finding some success after years of hard work.
Val who?
I know everyone seems to like Chris Jericho, but I still don't understand what all the excitement is all about. I'm still waiting for the great wrestling matches everyone says he can have.
I prefer Ivory's old music please!
I've become more interested in ECW lately. The Impact Players are my favorites right now. I give ECW credit for having some great matches. They may have a lot of commercials and promos on TNN, but once down to business it's great. It's too bad things didn't work out for Chris and Tammy this time around. Tammy was once the #1 woman in wrestling, and I thought she and Chris could make it to the top again.
It's hard to believe I saw the Hardy Boyz wrestle in a small high school gym just a year ago. They're a great team, and so far they and Edge and Christian have been able to keep their matches interesting. Notice I said matches! No long interviews, no props, nothing but wrestling matches so far and it still keeps the fans attention! Pay attention everyone. There's a great article in the latest WOW Magazine about this, letting the matches tell the story. (Looks like they're going to cover the WWF years in pictures only - referring to the E! Story on Hogan).
I can't wait to get the Rock's book. I read the first chapter at his website. I also went through the Smackdown Hotel for the first time yesterday. I recommend everyone check it out. Just go to his WWF website. It seems the Rock's being careful that his speeches don't become old, he hasn't been giving them on both RAW and Smackdown each week. Though he is one wrestler I don't mind listening to, I think it's a good idea. Actually he comes up with more things than Austin did. Or it could be that his sayings allow for more of a variety. There's tons of things you can do with "It doesn't matter....", or "Do you like....?". What's great about the Rock is that he brings in new things kind of without you noticing. He keeps his familar sayings in each interview, but may bring in something new to see how it goes. (Clearly the best part of this Hogan story will be what I just saw, Hogan and Heenan walking us through some of the WM III Andre/Hogan match. Those were the days, right?)
Oh, Hulk just said the Warrior was one-dimensional and they had to give the belt back to Hogan to keep things going. Maybe so, but maybe not.
I'm looking forward to the "Man on the Moon" movie. Be sure to watch the Andy Kaufman: I'm from Hollywood special on Comedy Central near Christmas time if you haven't already seen it. The King sure can keep a secret can't he? I've never heard him reveal any of what went on behind the scenes.
So much to talk about, so little time. Send in your comments and I'll try to write more soon.

Did anyone else recognize the lady on Nitro as being former WWF wrestler Bertha Faye? I watched the first hour of Nitro and was kind of disappointed. Why are they having matches in the mud now? Isn't that a little too obvious. Plus, why make fun of JR? I realize the WWF made fun of WCW personalities several years ago, but it just shows how important the WWF is to them. They should just do their own thing and forget about the WWF. The new writing team's influence doesn't seem to work as well in WCW. Sometimes I think people who write these shows try just a little bit too hard. It's odd because I like so many of the WCW wrestlers, but just not the show. RAW on the otherhand was pretty good last night. I had been thinking that DX would surround the ringside area or something before the wedding seeing Vince can't go near them. Then when they did their interview and HHH started talking about that stipulation, I thought maybe I was right. However, what they did do was far better. I guess that wedding song was written for the WWF? that used to be Randy and Elizabeth's song as well. Even though last night was great, I'm not sure how they could follow up on this. Probably the HHH/McMahon match at the next PPV will be for Stephanie. I think bringing Al Snow in to the Rock/Mankind angle is great, I was thinking that might start to get boring, but now there are endless possibilities. If I haven't already said it, Mankind's book is great. I'm almost done now. I'm thinking about doing something at my site with it, possibly having people write in their thoughts of the book to be posted. Instead of just a general "It was great" or "It was awful", I'd rather have people talk about specific examples. Guess that's all for right now.

I can't believe it's been so long since I last wrote. My goal is to write every weekend from now on. A lot of you have already written to me about the WWA Arena Report that I did. Glad to see people are still visiting my site, and appear to still find it interesting. Like you may have saw, I'm about 80% done "Have a Nice Day". I don't really want to say too much about it until I'm done. So far I can say that it is a book every wrestling fan should read. Believe me, it goes by fast too! Usually I find my mind wandering when I'm reading about matches instead of seeing them, but in this book, the description is so good that you really feel like you're at ringside watching all of Mick's greatest moments in the ring. Not to mention you'll learn more about the business and about many of the people in the business. I've said enough, it's better to just read it on your own, really. I've read Ted Dibiase's book, Arn Anderson's book, etc. and this is by far the best.
Reading the book though has made me think about hardcore wrestling a lot. Overall, I do enjoy it. Sometimes I think the things that are done are unnecessary, especially when things are done that put the fans at risk. If the wrestlers want to risk serious injury in these matches, that is their choice, but fighting out in the audience does little for the match. What actually gets accomplished fighting through a crowd of people? When you think about it, not much. I'm not saying the fight has to stay in the ring or at ringside, take it anywhere, I don't care, but in the crowd makes little sense. I realize the fans go crazy when the wrestlers go out in to the crowd and I'm sure that's why it will continue to happen. I'm just saying that it doesn't accomplish much for the actual match. Boiler room brawls are fine, taking it backstage, etc. is all great. One of my favorite matches was Hardcore Holly vs. Al Snow taking it all the way to the river. I guess I'm thinking about it cause I had a hardcore match end up right behind me the other night. I admit, the crowd goes nuts when they are in the middle of the action, so why even bother writing about this, right? Hardcore doesn't necessarily have to spill outside of the ringside area either, as Mankind and Undertaker's Hell in a Cell match proves.
Kevin Kelly has got to be the worst announcer in history. I try to give him a chance, but tonight on HEAT it was awful. I'd rather see Jim Cornette call the action with Michael Cole. Too bad Cornette wasn't still on tv. I'll always remember him asking me how I enjoyed the matches when I met him. I said they were great, when it had in fact been a Superstars of Wrestling taping and the matches were probably the worst I'd ever. Oh well, I had my chance. But I was impressed that Jim would even ask. It shows how much he cares about what he does for a living.
I'm glad to see the fans finally responding to Moolah and Mae Young. Signs are starting to appear on tv. Speaking of which, the latest RAW magazine has some hints on how to get your signs on tv. So before I read the article I'm thinking they're going to tell you when to hold them up, what colors to use, where the best place to be standing is, etc. Instead, it sort of basically says to stop bringing the same old signs to the events, and more or less says some things that I think could upset some sign waving fans. On the one hand they say make any sign you want (without profanity of course), but on the other hand, don't bring signs that say "this, this and that". I'd think they would be happy to see an arena full of "Austin 3:16" signs again. I don't think anything was as impressive as that used to be. Speaking of Steve, we all wish him the best of luck of course!
I have a lot more I want to write about, but will do so later this week. Hope everyone had a great holiday.
