Hi Fans! Has anyone else seen part or all of this E! special about pro wrestling? If you haven't, don't bother. It's amazing how these shows continually take comments and quotes from wrestlers totally out of context. And who is this Sports Illustrated writer who says pro wrestlers aren't like real wrestlers because the amateurs work out every day? I hate to say it but I'm pretty sure HHH, the Rock, Billy Gunn, Chyna, etc. all work out every day. Plus, why does the press continually compare pro wrestling with "real" wrestling. They are not the same and pro wrestling fans and performers don't pretend that they are, so what is the point? As if we're all going to go "Oh, wrestling is not real? I better not watch any more." Anyway.....

Don't you think Patterson and Brisco should ask Fabulous Moolah and Mae young to Test and Stephanie's wedding? Hopefully we'll see more of Moolah and Young.

What has Jeff Jarrett done to his career? I think most people will say this angle has been amusing and not to be taken seriously at all, but is this really going to bring him closer to a WWF Title shot? especially if he loses the IC belt to Chyna (which I believe he will).

Seems as though there are hints of Stone Cold turning heel, or at least tests to see fans' reaction. For example, Austin making the 3 count for HHH. I don't think it would be a good move.

So who will Debra manage next? How about the Bulldog?

I'll write more later.

Just a quick note tonight. If you didn't know any better, you would think JR has been reading my commentary. Check out the latest Ross Report and see if you notice any coincidences (which they must be, right?). I'm not going to be watching RAW tonight seeing it's on at 11pm. I did last week, but can't do it this week. I just did it last week because it was from Boston. I guess I'll watch 2 hours of Nitro, or til I fall asleep, whichever comes first. I've got to say that the ECW show didn't impress me on Friday. I understand that they're trying to introduce people to their product, but the best way to do that is to show us some matches, not clips of highlights of older ones, or music videos, or repeat the tour dates twice (and very slowly at that!). I hope ECW is successful, but they should just forget that many of us are new to their programming, and show us some good matches. Plus, TNN viewers are not in to White Zombie I'm sure. Sorry, not much time for writing tonight.

RAW was great on Monday! I hope you all got to see it even though it was on late for the East Coast. There was a time when I thought the Rock's speeches were getting boring, and would be old fast! But now, I think I could listen to them each and every week, along with the Millions.....! of the Rock's fans. I remember about a year or so ago when I said they should have the Rock talk more and that I liked him, people wondered how on Earth I could like the Rock and some even said I was the only person they knew who liked the Rock. Funny how things change. I've lost my RAW reporter, and some others too I think. I think it's time for a whole re-doing of my site. I'm going to plan on redoing a lot of things and giving it a new look. My only problem with the Rock is this: (and it's nothing to do with the Rock himself). The Rock is now the major player on TV seeing that Austin is out, and the Rock is the Main Eventer at house shows, and basically overall he's working really hard and really has the respect of the fans. However, when Austin returns, where does that leave the Rock? in second place again? I don't think that's really fair. Just before Austin left, the Rock was losing his matches and getting made a fool of. Now that the WWF needs the Rock he's back on top. So what happens when he is no longer as "essential"? Don't get me wrong, I like Austin, but I don't think it's fair to the Rock either. Where is HHH in this conversation? I have no idea. He was barely on RAW, and did anyone in the crowd or watching on tv miss him? The Rock just has to become WWF Champ again soon. He's more popular than ever before!

Thinking about the Rock's success at such a young age reminds me of an interview I read with Rowdy Roddy Piper. He talked about how these young wrestlers need to pay their dues and all and he justifies why he, Hogan, Flair, etc. are still in the spotlight and shouldn't have to step down the ladder for younger talent. Excuse me, but how old were Piper, Savage, Hogan, etc. when they were at the peak of their careers? Times have changed and obviously a wrestler can be on top without years and years of paying their dues. Should we say "No, you haven't been in this business long enough, you've got to wait a few years" to someone who the fans want to see, and has the talent to survive in today's environment? Of course not. I don't know about you, but I never knew for years and years that Bob Holly, Billy Gunn, etc. could be so entertaining.

What is with these tag team brawls in the WWF? Either have a battle royal, or show us a match!

One final note, that RAW ring announcer sure did improve in a week's time! She is really pretty good!

Hey fellow wrestling fans, what a week this has been!!! I don't know about you, but how can anyone keep up with the wrestling world these days? There's about 20 hours of wrestling a week possible to watch on my tv channels. I guess this is the test of whether too much wrestling on tv will have a negative overall impact on the industry. Some would say it isn't as special when it's on ALL THE TIME, but then again, soap operas are on 5 days a week and retain their viewers. Smackdown and the TNN ECW Show were great debuts, even though Smackdown has aired once before. I suppose we shouldn't be surprised by Shawn turning on the Rock, but I was. Of course I read about it before hand (which I should stop doing!), but I figured seeing Shawn wasn't wrestling anymore that he wouldn't turn. So why would Shawn help HHH, who turned his back on Shawn early last year? Shawn must have some plan because he certainly doesn't need HHH, but obviously HHH needs Shawn. With all the whining HHH has done about how he deserves to be champion, why does he need so much help? I'm still not sure that I think he's worthy of being champ, but he is. HHH won the belt on RAW, which was obvious after he lost it at SummerSlam. I cannot understand why the WWF does not give the fans who buy the PPVs the best possible show. HHH should have won the belt at SummerSlam, and did they really have to promote RAW so much during SummerSlam? making matches for RAW, etc.....Excuse me, but we pay $30.00 to see something happen in the present. Besides, anyone who pays $30.00 to watch the PPV is more than likely going to watch RAW anyway. I don't understand the logic!!!

I'm just kind of writing about whatever randomly comes up in my mind here, so paragraph breaks really don't mean much. I haven't been doing much with my site partially because I've been busy, and partially because my writers haven't submitted anything to me. I have some people who did very well for several months, but either because they've been busy, or have lost interest, I'm kind of in a jam. I thank all of them for what they have contributed, and of course look forward to hearing from them again, but if anyone out there is interested in writing a column or doing some reports, please email me (especially if you have the time to do weekly submissions!).

I just picked up the latest (October) issue of WOW magazine. This is probably the best overall wrestling magazine out there today (that I can find anyway). Wrestling magazines do have the problem of becoming outdated so quickly seeing that things are constantly happening each and every week on tv, but this magazine is pretty good. I'm going to subscribe, so hopefully I get it before it hits news stands and it will be a week or so sooner that I get to read it. No other magazine compares with length, and photos, that I can find. There's interesting interviews, commentary, reports, etc. and it focuses on all of pro wrestling, past, present, and future. Rena Mero is on the cover for Part II of her interview with the magazine. Inside are a ton of pictures of Rena, and there are 3 collectors covers. Some important points are made from Mero about her lawsuit, specifically, proof that she began this process weeks before Owen's death, thus putting to rest the reports that she was trying to use his death for her own advantage. I've got to say that for awhile I didn't sypathize with her, but knowing that, and realizing that she probably wasn't serious about the $110 million, I know believe she simply wanted out of her contract, and that was a pretty sure way to make certain she would get out of it. Can we really believe she thought she would get all that money? Of course not. If she did believe it, she wouldn't have settled with Vince, and would have continued to pursue legal action. Instead she probably got a good amount of money from the WWF, and out of her contract. If you've read some of the things that were done to her in the locker room, I don't care what she was like!, no one deserves that! The fact will always remain that she was the most popular female in pro wrestling's history, and for that, she will always be somewhat of an icon, legend, whatever you want to call it. I really believe part of the reason so many fans are disappointed in her is because of the direction her character took towards the end. When you forget that she is an actress afterall, and her character's attitude combined with Rena's lawsuit makes the overall person look pretty bad. People were upset with the Sable character, and I think that crossed over to Rena the person, and obviously there is a clear distinction between character and actress. Hey, don't laugh, I still know of people who think wrestling is somewhat real!!

I suppose everyone knows that Miss Kitty (Stacy Carter) is Jerry Lawler's longtime girlfriend. I read an interview with her in last month's WOW, and between that interview and what I've seen of her in the WWF so far, I'm not that impressed. WCW had a good ladies match tonight on WCW Saturday Night. Hopefully Luna, Tori, Ivory, and whoever else, can pick up the WWF's ladies division. And can anyone believe all the refs and officials who offered to control Tori prior to the evening gown match on Smackdown? I also am not so sure Stacy Carter is going to prove beneficial to Debra. She could take away some of her spotlight. I think Terri and Jackie pretty much proved that 2 women valets don't get along forever. Who is that ring announcer on RAW!!!?? I'm certainly not against having a female ring announcer, but she was pretty bad! So they couldn't decide who to have do commentary for Smackdown? I don't think they should have Lawler and Ross do both RAW and Smackdown. Michael Cole is worthy in my opinion (and not Kevin Kelly, please!!! he is so bad). Some fans may think I'm crazy on this one, but how about Vince McMahon? He did a pretty good job for a lot of years. Terry Taylor was doing ok I thought. I think the WWF really should work on having 2 good announce teams (which may help in an emergency too). Look what happened when Jim Ross couldn't announce for awhile, fans weren't ready for Michael Cole. Two announce teams would provide a little variety during the week, and provide some backup.

No way will I watch HEAT anymore if it continues to be like last week!!! - which I hear it is supposed to be. The WWF and WCW need to realize that this music integration is not going to work. Sure, everyone watching and at the arenas loves wrestling! but there is no way wrestling fans all have the same taste in music. Unless you're going to have Mariah Carey on, leave it out. See, I'm sure a bunch of readers just said "No Mariah Carey!!"If I want to see live music then I'll turn it on MTV or VH-1 or TNN.

I'm going to try and write every week. In about 30 minutes I'm gonna watch NWA New England, so I don't have much time left to write this week. Let me address this: again on WCW Saturday Night the announcers made comments about rumors on the Internet. It is not wise of the wrestling promotions to make negative comments about this. Don't they realize the people with web sites and talking about wrestling all over the net are fans!!!! Too bad if their secrets are sometimes revealed, they'll have to work harder. Also, here is a major point. Badmouthing Internet fans does nothing to help a wrestling promotion for 2 reasons: 1) fans who do not use the Internet are not going to care about the comment and probably don't understand anyway seeing they don't visit wrestling web sites, and 2) the fans that do use the Internet are going to take offense to the comments. We seem to get mixed messages from the promotions. Here they tell us to visit their own websites, but on the other hand make comments about the rest of the websites. Internet fans had great websites long before any promotion had the type of site they have today, right? Anyway, I've got to get going for now. I will try to write at least once a week. Thanks for reading, and email me with any comments, suggestions, etc.

August 08, 1999

It seems a lot of things I write here either come true, or relate to what happens in the future. Maybe a coincidence I guess. It's obvious HHH is going to win the belt at SummerSlam. There's so many reasons. HHH has been in the WWF for awhile now and has been one of the top wrestlers. All the stuff with his interviews and entire change of attitude make it obvious he will win. Plus, if the rumors are true, Austin needs some time with his kids also. I really don't think HHH will make the best champion. He always has help from Chyna or someone. I've never been too big a fan anyway. My guess is that he won't hold on to the belt for too long. There's a lot of other guys who deserve it as well in my opinion, like the Big Show and Ken Shamrock. It sounds like Billy Gunn might get it within a year or so, leading me to believe he'll defeat the Rock. I really don't like seeing the Rock lose so often, but it looks like that's the way it's going. I bet Tori will win the women's title from Ivory. In all, belts don't mean that much anymore anyway, which is kind of sad. How many belts changed hands at the last PPV? Look at the European title, enough said. I know I read one of the wrestlers say it made things more interesting, but I disagree. I am not going to care about title matches when the belts change so often. It was a BIG deal when the Hart Foundation defeated the British Bulldogs, Randy Savage winning the IC belt at Boston Garden was a BIG deal, and it was a BIG deal when Ricky Steamboat defeated Randy Savage for the IC belt, but now I'm lucky if I can remember who the current champions are. I am really surprised Jesse Ventura is appearing in the WWF. We were really led to believe that he and the WWF weren't getting along after his lawsuit, but I guess that's not the case. I'm sure he will receive a lot of negative response for his appearance, but oh well. When you see him being interviewed (and he always seems to be on some show), the reporters are always trying to get him to say different things, but they don't realize he is just going to tell the truth and they don't need to be so sneaky with their questions. With all the news shows that feature wrestling lately, and all the lies we wrestling fans know they tell - and how they sensationalize everything!, it's a good lesson to think about other stories they present to us. News channels want ratings just like the WWF! Speaking of Jesse appearing on tv all the time, he is supposed to be on the #1 soap opera, "Young and the Restless" soon! I'll let you know all about that.

It seems Vince and Bret talked for about an hour at Owen's funeral, and Vince says Bret talked mostly about himself. The fact that Bret would talk for an hour with Vince is further proof to me that the whole Survivor Series incident is the Lawler/Kaufman incident of the 90s. I never did write that column about why I believe it was just part of the show, but I still plan to. If you watch "Hitman Hart: wrestling with shadows", there are so so many things that make you question the truth to that story. Bottom line, there is no way it could have been expected for Bret to go on RAW the next night and say "I'm giving up my title to go to WCW, I love all you fans, goodbye". There is no way! I'm sure a ton of fans would have followed him over to WCW. The way it turned out, some fans were upset with Bret, some upset with Vince, and it created a big controversy. Why would Owen stay in a company that had just so obviously treated his brother in the worst possible way, stabbing him in the back! This whole "Hitman Hart: wrestling with shadows" movie is interesting, Vince had a part in making it, didn't it make a good show? The perfect story. I must say that Bret going to WCW has hurt his career in my opinion. If he had stayed in the WWF, I'm sure he would still be in the top 5 or so.

I finally watched an entire Thunder episode this week. I didn't have TBS until recently. I watched it 2 weeks ago and it was terrible. This past week was pretty good. They really need to improve the show though because once Smackdown comes along, I can't imagine Thunder will survive. WCW just doesn't have as good a show in my opinion. We have to watch clips of things that have already happened. Granted, the WWF does that too - but not nearly as long. Most people have already seen what they show, and if someone hasn't - that's ok too - just show some new programming and everyone will be happy. The show doesn't flow as smoothly as the WWF. It doesn't keep you on the edge of your seat. They don't use a lot of their wrestlers right in my opinion. I know I always say it, but Hogan really bothers me. For him to go on Larry King Live and say he is the number one guy in the business today is a lie, and we all know it. Plus, when he said "We haven't decided" if he's going to run for President, could the "We" be he and Ted Turner? I guess we could assume he meant his family, but I doubt it. I wouldn't mind Hogan if he didn't realize that his company needs to focus more on the younger athletes. How many times are fans going to watch Hogan vs. Savage? The best times were in the 80s. He also basically said Vince is a liar on that Larry King show. Vince said in court that Hogan told him about Ventura wanting to form a union, and Hogan said that was not true. So I guess it comes down to who do you believe? There's a lot of guys in WCW that I really respect though, like the work DDP and Goldberg do for charity, and how nice guys like Benoit are to their fans. It will be interesting to see how Chris Jericho does in the WWF, seems like he'll be at the top fast.

I've felt bad hearing of ECW's troubles, though with their new show coming up maybe those will end. ECW made their name on hardcore wrestling, and then the WWF, and even WCW adopted some of that, and no look where ECW is and how popular this style has become. They're not receiving any of the rewards for developing one of the biggest things in wrestling of the 90s. Maybe you could blame the wrestlers who left ECW for more money, or the big 2 for using the hardcore style, but I don't think anyone is to blame really, it's just sad that ECW isn't receiving more credit or reward for what they have brought to pro wrestling in the 90s. Hopefully their new show on TNN (?) will help them out.

Jeff Jarrett: I hope they don't split up Jeff and Debra so quickly. They make a great pair and remind me of Savage and Sherri. I think they should stay together and eventually they could make it to heavyweight title matches, and possibly have Jeff win it. I predicted awhile ago that Jeff would be WWF Champ someday, and I'm still holding on to that prediction. He's had the IC belt so many times now, there's no place left for him to go but to the top, or down. Hopefully it won't be down. Debra should be a little more active in the matches like Sherri used to be. Speaking of which, it's nice to see Sherri's back with the AWA. Did you all read her interview at the AWA site? You can find the link to that interview on the main page of this site.

Ken Shamrock: He wants to leave for a year to return to UFC. I think this could be great for his wrestling career. Now maybe more people will watch his fights, and if he is successful in them, when he returns to the WWF he should be ready to win the heavyweight title. I think part of his problem entering the WWF the first time is that not many people were aware of his past. Maybe I shouldn't say so many people deserve the heavyweight title seeing I don't want it changing hands all the time. I guess back in the 80s a lot of top wrestlers never got the gold. I'm just thinking of how things are going though, and if the belt is going to go around, then Shamrock and Jarrett deserve it at least once.

Ivory: The fans don't seem too excited about Ivory. She certainly has tried though. I think her match with Tori at SummerSlam is going to be a good indication of how the women's division will end up in the near future.

Dustin Runnels: There is no way I am going to believe Dustin Runnels wanted to get breat implants, and that being his reason for leaving the WWF. This is one wrestler that I think would benefit by going to WCW. There's a lot more things he could do there, including a reunion with his father, and involvement with the Four Horsemen. Plus, there's always the chance for Goldust to return to the WWF in need be. If Terri is really behind this G-TV, I'm anxious to see what will become of it. It's obvious PMS will split up, but they certainly aren't going to have all the victims of G-TV go after Terri.

Kevin Kelly: He has to be the worst wrestling announcer ever. Do not ask me why the WWF seems to like him so much! He sounds like he's reading off a script. Michael Cole is better than he is. I hope the WWF allowing him to open RAW a few weeks ago is not a sign of things to come. Plus, I'll never forget the way he answered kids letters in a WWF Magazine, totally inappropriate. Jim Ross is very good, but I still prefer announcers of the 80s, like Gorilla Monsoon, Lord Alfred Hayes, Jesse Ventura, even Vince!! I do think the WWF needs to have different announcers for RAW, Smackdown, and HEAT though. How about Ross and Lawler for RAW, Cole and Terry Taylor for Smackdown? Kelly (if we must) and someone else for HEAT? Instead of having Jesse be a guest referee at SummerSlam, they should have made him guest commentator.

Brian Christopher and Scott Taylor: These two guys could one day hold the WWF tag belts. I look forward to their return and a possible feud with the Hardy Boyz. Faarooq and Bradshaw, they're just too boring for me. No personality.

Rena Mero: Have I already talked about this? I always wonder about this, if she was really harrassed working at the WWF and she believed they were in the wrong, wouldn't it be more important to go to court and prove all that!!! plus settle her lawsuit. The settlement out of court doesn't mean the WWF is guilty, just that they want to end this negative publicity. Sable had been doing some pretty raunchy things for a few years now, why all of a sudden is she a victim? The fact that she can't return for a few years pretty much means she'll never be back in wrestling. Either she's going to become a big Hollywood star (who wouldn't return anyway if she's successful), or everyone is going to forget about her.

Rumors on the Internet: there are far too many rumors floating around. Why waste time focusing on them? It's one thing if you're talking about the shows and what you think is going to happen, or you're analyzing the business, but to just randomly make things up is rather boring.

Hardcore Holly: Bob Holly, why does everyone dislike him? He is so funny now, and much better than ever before. He's proved in his hardcore matches that he can take on any superstar. He's already up there in an angle with the Big Show and Undertaker. The Undertaker has been quite boring this past year. I know not everyone agrees with that, but he was much better before he started putting people on his symbol.

There's so many things I think to write about during the week, but like everything else, unless you write it down, you forget. I hope people are still enjoying my site. As always, I wish I had more time to work on it.
