Carly Simon Autograph Signing, Vineyard Haven
May 29, 2004 at Midnight Farm - Page 2

So after that I had her sign my CD (I took out the sleeves to be signed), the DVD for a co-worker of mine, and I asked if she would sign the CD sleeve of her debut self-titled album from 1971. While she was signing I told her how I listen to her music frequently and often all day at work. Bringing her debut CD turned out to be a good thing though because she told me that she listened to it the other day for the first time in 20 years. I found that interesting, but I suppose if I was a singer I might not listen to my own albums over and over? She mentioned a song on it called “Reunions” and I THINK (I couldn’t hear well) that she said it was her favorite on there or something like that. Carly then asked me what song I’ve been listening to most lately and I told her the entire “Boys in the Trees” album. At this point I sort of realized that here I was on this couch talking with Carly Simon and there’s like a ton of people staring at us! Yeah that made me a bit uncomfortable and I kind of wish I had said more, but I suppose in order to keep the line going I had better get going. I thanked her and stood up to leave and the last thing I remember her saying to me was “Thank you for listening to my music”.

We left the store and there was still a long line, but the three hours was well worth the wait. I can understand how some casual fans may have been irritated by the wait, but Carly really tried to make the experience special for each and every person, so she cannot be faulted for that.

Unfortunately, the sun was shining too brightly on this Midnight Farm sign...but at least the sun was shining for Carly's signing!
