Assignment 6: Hate and the Internet
- Hate speech: the hate speech is a kind of offensive speech, which includes writing and gesture.
They are said or published by someone who aims to attack other people deliberately.
In many countries, hate speech is forbidden by laws.
- Yes, I would place limits on the free expression.
I think I will define those limits just for protecting people’s normal rights from those hate speeches.
Those hate speech and offensive behaviors should be forbidden so that people can live in a safe and civilized society.
- Personally, I don’t think we should reach an international consensus.
Because different countries have different cultures, religions and backgrounds, it is hard to define a common standard, which is applied all over the world.
Maybe one speech is a hate speech in one country, but it may not be a hate speech in another country.
- Yes, I think it is appropriate. For example, those people who are deliberated to say or post something on the internet
which violates the law and makes other people painful should be filtered.
Because those hate speech gives a bad influence to the society, and it is harmful.
- Of course, those creators should be held responsible. Because they create those websites, which give other people a bad influence,
lead to commit hate crimes. They are the origin of the crimes, if there are no first sources on the internet,
people would not view those webpages, and the criminal rate would be decreased.
- Yes, I would. Because children are the group which is easy to be influenced by the internet and other media,
they are not like the adults that have already had the ability to identify what things are good and what things are bad.
So we should provide a special protection on them.
- I think there should be some distinctions. Internet is a very important media and tool that most people use and get information from it.
But it also has some differences between the virtual world and the real world. For example, people can do something online but they can do these things offline.
So it is important to distinct the online and offline.
- I think they should not be different from the objectionable material such pornography. Because, basically, they have the same influence to the society,
the purposes of them are not good. So they should be treated as the same as hate-related materials.
