Kaen has published extensively in leading academic journals including The American Economic Review, The Journal of Financial Economics, The Journal of Finance, The Journal of Money, Credit and Banking and The Journal of Monetary Economics. He has written three textbooks for the American Management Association (Corporate Investment and Financial Management, International Financial Management and Financial Risk Management ) and has written Corporate Finance: Theories and Policies for Blackwell Publishers in 1995. Kaen’s research focuses on international finance, corporate governance and corporate finance. He has presented his research at universities and conferences in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia. Most recently he was invited to discuss corporate governance and German initial public offerings at the Max Planck Institute in Hamburg and at the Ifo Institute in Munich. Kaen has had a long-standing interest in the New Hampshire economy and public policy. He was a member of the Citizen’s Advisory Committee appointed by the New Hampshire Legislature to study the financial affairs of PSNH and Seabrook in 1980. He is co-author of Information Effects in Financial Distress: The Case of Seabrook Station and has just completed a study of state-assisted financing plans offered by the State of New Hampshire with funding from the Josiah Bartlett Center. Kaen has been a visiting professor at the University of Oregon, The Norwegian School of Economics and Business (Bergen), the Norwegian School of Management (Oslo) and the University of Hamburg. He continues to work closely on joint research projects with colleagues in Norway and Germany. Along with S. Melvin Rines, Kaen directs the Center for International Private Sector Development and Public Policy. The Center is involved in course development and research projects related to corporate governance, privatization, deregulation and the development of public policies supporting the vitality of the private sector. |
