Group 2:Topic A:Free Software

We all advocate what Richard Stallman began with the free software approach. We believe that the quantity and the quality of software produced will increase and expand. If everyone is allowed to share their ideas freely, people will be able to build together. Glitches that someone may overlook in their own software can be noticed and improved on by other software developers. Everyones efforts combind will lead to innovation and advancement. If everyone was able to contribute, they will lower the cost, and everyone can share in the expenses.

The copyrights for music are a tricky subject. We believe that the artist should be able to decide how they want to market their work. People have many reasons for copying software. They may do it for a fair use cause. They may justify it because of a way they believe they are contributing to the greater good. They may justify coping it because they cannot afford to buy it. If things are freely available to be copied and shared, we believe that many problems will be eliminated. People will choose to participate in improving software due to genuine intrest, rather than trying to make a profit however they can.

I share the opinion of the others members of my group. We all believe that free software has a good number of advantages, and I believe that the use of free software and collaborative efforts will improve the quality of software for everyone. By everyone contributing to something greater than what we could individually create, we are all paid in something greater than monetary value.
