Group 2:Topic 1:Online Predators

Measures that are taken to protect children from online predators, such as "To Catch a Predator" and the family watchdog site, are both effective to protect children from sexual predators online, but these sites alone are not enough. Both of these measures are commonly known by the public, so the predators can find ways around them. This said these programs do prevent some predators from hurting children, and perhaps make others think twice.

Additional laws are definatly needed. Our justice system overall is not strict enough in regards to these crimes. My group agrees that overall the general public holds this opinion. Crimes against children are in the most disgusting level of crime. A child predator should not get off easy. They should have a minimum sentence of at least ten years in jail. At the very least, and even that is a bit lenient.

When we stop to ponder the effect of their crime on innocent, young children we cannot understand what drives someone to commit these crimes. That child will never be able to rid themselves of the nightmares, the abuse, and all the agony and mental disturbances crimes like this lead to. Yes, the child can survive, but they will never be the same. They will never get that innocence back. They will never forget every scream, every gory moment of pure agony.

If someone is guilty of preying on an innocent child, I do not think that there own privacy is something to be concerned with. That said, things such as urinating in public is not really preying on children, and should not recieve the same label as rape on the watchdog website. I know they note the level of crime, but that really should not be on the website.

While I do feel bad for the families of the people exposed, they have probably been hurt by the predator as well. Peoples crimes cannot be hidden to protect the family. We think most people will acknowledge that the family is a victim of this crimal as well.
